In cryptography, a zero-knowledge proof or zero-knowledge protocol is a method by which one party can prove to another that a (usually mathematical) statement is true, without allowing the other party to prove the statement to anyone else. A zero-knowledge proof must necessarily require interactive input from the verifying party; otherwise the verifier could simply record the proof and replay it to convince someone else.
